Our client in Forest City, NC, has an opening for an experienced Project Engineer. We are actively interviewing for this role.

The position serves as an exemplar of Total Quality Management (TQM) practices, employing TQM tools in day-to-day tasks and interactions. Operating with minimal supervision, the role involves conceptualizing, developing, and implementing procedures, overseeing entire engineering projects, and engaging in all aspects of project management. Regular interaction with division management on strategic technical matters is expected.
Candidate Must Have:
- Must be able to work in the US on a W-2
- Experience overseeing or managing tool room
- Machinist experience
- Hands-on experience with evaluating tooling & plastic injection molding processes and machinery
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience
Key Responsibilities:
1. Prioritizes and promotes a culture of safety throughout all aspects of work.
2. Possesses a comprehensive understanding of Sonoco's products, processes, and machinery.
3. Supervises drafters, designers, and technicians assigned to projects, securing external resources as needed.
4. Coordinates projects with various departments and designs intricate processes and equipment.
5. Manages construction, debugging, and installation processes, conducting original equipment development through research and experimentation.
6. Initiates projects for new or modified products and processes, estimating costs and schedules for project proposals.
7. Develops project plans, assuming the role of project leader with responsibilities for budget and schedule control, status reporting, customer interface, and adherence to design objectives.
8. Maintains expertise in product, process, and mechanical development, along with project management, through continuous learning via reading, attending technical courses, etc.
9. Enhances proficiency in advanced computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, AutoCAD, and project management tools.
10. Records and produces technical reports, safeguarding intellectual property through the maintenance of an engineering notebook.
11. Proposes ideas for product development, process improvement, and equipment advancement to enhance safety or gain a competitive edge. May contribute to business unit or strategic planning.
12. Demonstrates a sound understanding of Sonoco and ER&D Department procedures, building connections with key technical personnel in the organization.
13. May mentor and guide new engineers or designers during their orientation and initial learning phase.
14. Collaborates closely with manufacturing personnel, division managers, marketing, and other relevant disciplines.
15. Undertakes additional duties as assigned.
